Polaris - Music From "The Adventures of Pete and Pete"

this day has been an utterly hedonistic exercise in self-destruction. food, drink, excess. it feels wonderful. it feels awful. and to do my penance for it, this gem that steals me back to childhood. this music which spirits me back to the living room at my grandparents' house where i'd sit in front of the tv on saturday nights to make sure to catch the latest episode of "pete & pete." that show (which i still watch on dvd frequently) was something so very far ahead of it's time. guest actors such as steve buscemi and janeane garofalo, to musical guests like michael stipe and iggy pop made it all the more worthwhile. while polaris (mike mulcahy from miracle legion) was the majority of the music of the show, you could also find tunes from the magnetic fields and the apples in stereo. as i write this i'm caught somewhere between this spiteful point i am at in my life now and the sweet and simple era of being nine years old, when all you needed was a good story and good songs to make it through the schoolweek. i'm glad i still listen to polaris and watch "pete & pete," if only for the flashback to that feeling...
